To Have — English Conjugation

Common Mistakes for Spanish Speakers

He/she/it needs 'has' not 'have'

Spanish uses 'tiene' for all third person singular. In English: I/you/we/they = HAVE, but he/she/it = HAS. ❌ 'She have a dog' ✅ 'She has a dog'

Using 'have' for age

Spanish says 'tengo 25 años' but English says 'I am 25 years old'. Never say 'I have 25 years' in English.

Have to vs Tener que

'Have to' means obligation just like 'tener que'. 'I have to study' = Tengo que estudiar. Don't forget 'to' after 'have'.

Have vs Have got

Both 'I have a car' and 'I have got a car' are correct in English. 'Have got' is more common in British English.
